Lets start by sharing what is on top for us. For me I've been thinking about what I was doing 9 years ago at this time of year. I was teaching in North Canterbury at the time and have been thinking a bit about what it was like after the earthquakes. What about you? What's on top for you?
I am looking forward to hearing about your research from over the week.
This week will involve quite a lot of sharing and activity on your side of things. This is quite deliberate on my part and I'll briefly explain why I've set it up this way
We will start with a quick discussion about the word Renaissance.
It originates from French renaissance, from re- ‘back, again’ + naissance ‘birth’ (from Latin nascentia, from nasci ‘be born’).
It is defined in the Oxford English Dictionary as : A revival of, or renewal of interest in, something.
So my question to you is a re-birth, or renewal of what? We will have a quick class korero about our views and opinions about what exactly was being revived.
Following from that we'll have a bit of a share about our takeaways (and questions coming out of this) from the documentary you were assigned to watch during the week (The Pure Radience of the Past). We'll do this in a Padlet, then go around and sum up verbally what the key findings were for you from the documentary.
Then a bit of sharing. What did we find out in our research during the week? I'll screenshare our shared research slide
While we're still in the research slide, on slide 24 (the last slide) we'll add any questions we have. These could be things we're curious to find out more about after hearing someone else's research, or something you only scratched the surface on in your own research.
Following on from this I would really like to get the class working on Knowledge Forum. Knowledge Forum is a purpose built website for collaborating and building knowledge as a group/team. It does look a little beta in its' design, but it is more powerful than Padlet once we get into the grunty idea development stage.
We'll do a couple of things on Knowledge Forum.
My plan is to show people how to 'build on' a note. Then I will help anyone who hasn't got their knowledge forum account set up and connected to the art history 2020 forum.
If you haven't set up your account yet, these are the steps:

We will spend a decent amount of time in here as you will need time to get accustomed to the tools and post your ideas on the three threads listed above.
Remember that just like in our Padlet conversations it should be a two way conversation not a monologue, build on each others ideas.
And remember that all ideas are improvable and everyone has a responsibility to our community to work on building/developing ideas. This means that we can and should put our thoughts out there for the group to work on (even if it is just a half baked beginning of a thought and you have way more questions than answers) and once your ideas are out there anyone can and should develop them.
Then we'll go back to our research slide, claim another slide, something else that you would like to research over the week. We'll spend some time working on this in the VC.
At the end we'll go around and sum up where we're at, and what we feel will be important to spend time on over the week, in terms of background research.

- One will be to build on the 'emerging arguments thread'. Think back to our discussion last week, where you broke off into pairs and looked at our ideas about art padlet. On the Values and Arguments View post the things that you identified as being important idea threads.
- Second thing will be to build on the 'important ideas in the renaissance thread.We are going to identify we already know about the Renaissance. Who are the big artists of the period? Who are the other important names of the period? What were the important ideas of the period? Who were the important characters in art (subjects of paintings and sculptures)? The reason for this, is what might seem obvious to you, might be completely new information to someone with a different background.
- Third thing is to build on the 'What will be important for us to research/find out next'.

- First time users need to create a new account at https://kf6.netnz.org/login -click on New Account. as a new users fill in your details, the ‘Account Creation Key’ kcreation and then click on the ‘New Account’ button.
- You can now login at https://kf6.netnz.org with your new username and password.
- Now you need to Join Community - in the drop down ‘Community’ menu, select the correct community (NetNZ L3 Art History - 2020, enter the Community Registration Key (2020ArtHistory) then click on the ‘Join’ button
