Today in Art History 10/06/20

Kia ora everyone.

As always lets check in as people. How are your worlds? What is #onegoodthing and what is a challenge or a tricky thing for you currently?

We'll start with questions. Last week we looked at some theories examples (N, M and E).
This was towards the end of the VC, so there wasn't any time for questions about what you looked at. Do you have any questions about the theories side of things now?

I have also a couple of theories examples I've dug up from a few years ago that really illustrate the difference between A and E for theories. Keep in mind that they are just a snippet of the student's whole submission

I'll talk about these reasonably quickly.

I will also talk about the assignment quickly, and what you will need to focus on in different sections,just so that you have it clear in your mind where we are headed with our research. I think this is important as the work that you are doing each week should easily weave into your final submission, with a little bit of polishing.

Then we'll have a bit of a look at the Texts examples. I am going to spend a minute talking about the criteria for this achievement standard - because it is quite particular. Then spend some time looking at an exemplar.

E- Mid E. NetNZ student (Note that this student's assignment was for Texts and Arguments which is different to the Theories and Texts that you will be asked to focus on)

Then make notes about the exemplar here. Why do you think it got the grade it did. What did they focus on. What could they do better?  If you are a fast reader you might have a look at two that are either side of a grade you are going for (e.g M+, E) to get an understanding of the difference between the grades. 



Then we will share the research we did over the week into the principles of a theory. Hopefully it has been helpful to look at the principles against the context of an art work.

Then a bit of time knowledge building in our  theories padlet.  What can you add to our group discussion? This is all about building our ideas up over time. It should be starting to look like a tree of ideas with lots of branches growing. What have you learnt over the week? Add this. What can you add to someone else's posts. Add your ideas there. Do you have new questions. Add these. Could you answer someone else's question? Add your ideas there.

Then we'll make a start on researching the next principle shown in your chosen art work. This is a good time to ask questions, get a bit of help and just to do a bit of leg work to set your self up well for the week.

We'll round things off by reflecting on where we are at with the theories side of things now, and what our focus will be over the week.

My grand plan is to get marking sorted this weekend so that my moderator has all of the holidays to look at your work. All going well I should have marks back to you in week one of term four. Our Google Meet 21/02/19

21/02/19 Admin: Have we got set up with our netnz address yet? Here is  a guide for how to do it  and here is a  video  I recorded of setting up my netnz to forward to my regular mailbox, so I don't have to keep track of 2 emails. Sorry I was figuring out how to do it while I was recording, so please be patient I did get there in the end. You will need the netnz address primarily to access the Google+ community (Google will make it so that you can only access a community if you are from the same education domain as the owner e.g. netnz). How I'm organising my blog. As a research team which area of art history do we want to focus on? We need to pick whether we want to focus on Late Renaissance or Early Modernism as a group. Our Google Meet this week.

I would like to start using screencastify to record our google meets so that we can refer back to discussion if that is ok with you. I would keep them in a google drive folder that is accessible just to us. Today's recording in particular would be shared with my HoD who appraises my teaching each year. Today will be a bit admin-y as there is a bit to cover in terms of what we need to be working towards NCEA wise. Starting with what's on top for us . What is happening in our worlds and where we are at with our research into the values.  Please share some interesting discoveries and how they have helped your understanding of the big picture.  What has been helpful for you (on the website, on KF or some other sources?  (NB - when you click on the link, scroll down to the red padlet). We will then spend a bit of time adding to Knowledge Forum . This could be adding research you have been  doing as a note. Or new questions that have come up after doing research...
