As always let's check in on you guys as humans. 
  • What has been tricky and what has been good in your worlds recently?
Then

  • What difference will level 2 make to you?
  • What are the good things from lockdown that you will try to keep up with at school?
Update on your values and arguments. These have been marked and are with the moderator. They are working on getting these back to me at the end of the week and I am hoping, all going well, to have your feedback typed up at the start of next week. (sidenote: I really enjoyed marking these, and the moderator has said that they are really enjoying reading them. You should all be proud of the work you have put in.)

We are at the start of a new module of learning 'Theoretical Visions'

This will involve developing our understanding of Theories, Texts about artworks, and how theories impacted on Art.

I will unpack my plan for how this module will unfold, shortly but first let's have a look at that word Theory What do you think is meant by this word? What are the big theories in our area, Late Renaissance?

This learning module theoretical visions, is all about understanding a theory, understanding how the theory impacts on art and evaluating what authors say about art.



My grand plan is to spend some time investigating the big theories in our area, and getting familiar with the principles of the theories. This will happen through investigating and interacting with primary and secondary texts, watching movies/videos, group discussion (in VC and asynchronously on Padlet or similar).

We'll then investigate artworks that can be linked to certain theories. We'll try to find evidence of how the theories impacted on the art/can be seen in the art. This will happen through group discussion (in VC and asynchronously on Padlet or similar), investigating 'texts' that unpack the art in light of theories, and seminars where you report your research findings.

As with the previous module, I will try to weave what you need to do for the assignment, into the weekly work.

We are going to come back to this each week, so put lots of effort and thought into this please. You can and should use your contributions here when we get to putting the assignment together. We are doing to try to develop our knowledge about the theories. This means treating it like a conversation that we keep coming back to. It also means 'talking' to each  other and building on each other's ideas.

Remember that this presentation is just broad strokes, and you will investigate the theory in depth over the next few weeks.


What to do over the week:

  • In this doc, click into the pdfs I have attached. Pull out key quotes about the theory and try to put these into your own words in the shared doc. I have an example of this at the top. (NB - in the pdfs there are further links you can dive into to read more about the theories)

 Kia ora all, How are we all? -to some of you For those of you who are working on the internal and not sitting the art history external/s this week is a natural ending point to your course with the assignment being due on Friday. Our Google Meet 21/02/19

21/02/19 Admin: Have we got set up with our netnz address yet? Here is  a guide for how to do it  and here is a  video  I recorded of setting up my netnz to forward to my regular mailbox, so I don't have to keep track of 2 emails. Sorry I was figuring out how to do it while I was recording, so please be patient I did get there in the end. You will need the netnz address primarily to access the Google+ community (Google will make it so that you can only access a community if you are from the same education domain as the owner e.g. netnz). How I'm organising my blog. As a research team which area of art history do we want to focus on? We need to pick whether we want to focus on Late Renaissance or Early Modernism as a group. Our Google Meet this week.

I would like to start using screencastify to record our google meets so that we can refer back to discussion if that is ok with you. I would keep them in a google drive folder that is accessible just to us. Today's recording in particular would be shared with my HoD who appraises my teaching each year. Today will be a bit admin-y as there is a bit to cover in terms of what we need to be working towards NCEA wise. Starting with what's on top for us . What is happening in our worlds and where we are at with our research into the values.  Please share some interesting discoveries and how they have helped your understanding of the big picture.  What has been helpful for you (on the website, on KF or some other sources?  (NB - when you click on the link, scroll down to the red padlet).
