Today's focus will be on building our understanding of the big ideas and their principles, as you will need to unpack these in relation to art when you write your synthesis.

We are going to have a bit of a verbal korero about where our understanding is at with Humanism and Neoplatonism. Expect to come back to this question each week. It is a part of the knowledge building conversation really and a way of reviewing how our understanding is developing.
Sharing of research into big thinkers. Last week myself, Amy and Hazel shared our research into Pico Della Mirandola, Plato and St Francis. Check out the video recording to see this.
Madison has researched Lorenzo D' Medici and his contribution to the big ideas.
She will share her findings verbally.

We'll then spend a little time looking at sources. You'll find this on the Big Ideas view on Knowledge Forum. (In the top left where it says Good Sources). We'll spend 10 minutes looking at the links provided and 5 adding notes on Knowledge Forum that sum up your understanding of these.
Plato and the allegory of the cave. Last week Amy presented information about Plato. We noted in class that his theory of forms is quite important but rather difficult to wrap our heads around. We are going to spend some time looking at some sources I have found about the allegory of the cave, which was used by philosphers to explain the theory of forms. They can be found on the note 'Plato's allegory of the cave - What is it and how does it relate to the big idea? on the Big Ideas view.
Our focus going into the next week is to research how the principles of the big ideas relate to artworks. Have a look at the suggested artworks doc on our Weebly site and choose one or two to investigate over the week. Post on Knowledge forum in the Big Ideas view which you will look at over the week. Add as a build on your theory/ies about how the big ideas are expressed in the artworks. Over the week research in-depth how the big ideas have impacted on your artwork. If you are saying that it has humanist influences how do you know? What evidence is there within the artwork? What information do we have from authoritative sources that can back this up?
